Play Sonic vs. Camera (PoC) Online
Control Sonic, run and jump through stages, while dealing with a camera that zooms and pans unpredictably, making platforming a test of memory and reflexes.
Sonic vs. Camera is a proof of concept released in 2020 for the Sega Genesis, developed by a small team exploring the console's hardware quirks. It takes the familiar speed and physics of Sonic's platforming and twists them into something deliberately broken, focusing on the often overlooked role of the game camera itself.
You control Sonic as usual, running and jumping through stages, but the camera behaves unpredictably, zooming in too close or panning away at critical moments. The main objective is simply to reach the end of each act while wrestling with these erratic view shifts, which turn basic platforming into a test of memory and reflexes. Key mechanics include navigating loops and drops without visual cues, and timing jumps based on guesswork when the screen refuses to follow. The pacing is frantic and unforgiving, with progress feeling less like skillful play and more like stubborn persistence. It feels like arguing with a stubborn co-pilot who occasionally, and arbitrarily, decides to help.
