Game Overview

Space Instigators is basically someone’s sneaky homebrew take on Space Invaders for the Atari 2600—except it’s actually better than the official Atari port in a couple ways. First off, you get all nine rows of aliens marching down at you instead of just six, and somehow they pulled it off without that annoying flicker. The sound effects are closer to the arcade too, which makes a surprising difference when you’re ducking behind those little shield blocks.

Otherwise, it’s classic Space Invaders: you’re just a lone laser cannon at the bottom of the screen, picking off wave after wave of descending aliens while their shots chip away at your defenses. That UFO still zips across the top for bonus points, and yeah, the aliens do speed up as you thin them out. It’s simple, tense, and weirdly satisfying even now.
