Space Invaders 90 came out for the Sega Genesis in 1990, developed and published by Taito. It was part of that wave of arcade conversions that tried to squeeze a little more life out of classic formulas, and it landed right when the 16-bit consoles were starting to show what they could really do.

You control a laser cannon at the bottom of the screen, moving it left and right to shoot ascending rows of aliens. Your main goal is to clear each screen of all enemies before they reach the bottom or you run out of lives. The game introduces a few twists, like destructible barriers you can hide behind (or accidentally blow up yourself) and the occasional UFO that zips across the top for bonus points. The aliens don't just march; their speed and attack patterns shift as you eliminate more of them, creating a real sense of pressure. It feels like a tense, methodical shootout where every missed shot brings the threat closer.
