Super Space Invaders came out for the Sega Master System in 1991, published by Taito. It was a time when home consoles were really pushing colorful, fast-paced arcade-style games, and this one fit right in. It wasn't trying to be a huge epic; it was just a solid, straightforward shooter you could pick up and play.

You control a laser cannon at the bottom of the screen, moving it left and right to blast descending alien formations. Your main goal is to clear each wave before they reach the bottom or you run out of lives. Two mechanics stand out: you can hide behind destructible barriers for temporary cover, and certain enemies release power-ups that upgrade your shot or grant temporary shields. The pacing is relentless; the aliens speed up as their numbers thin, and their attack patterns become less predictable. It feels tense and satisfying when you finally clear a tricky screen, only to face an even tougher one right after.
