Space Invaders DS came out in 2005 for the Nintendo DS, developed and published by Taito. It was part of that early wave of DS games that tried new things with the hardware, bringing a straightforward arcade classic onto a handheld with two screens.

You control a laser cannon at the bottom of the screen, moving left and right to avoid enemy fire while shooting rows of descending aliens. The main goal is to clear each wave before they reach the bottom or you run out of shields. Signature mechanics include using the touch screen for rapid special attacks and the dual-screen layout for a larger playfield, which changes how you track incoming enemies. The pacing starts slow but quickly becomes frantic as the aliens drop lower and increase speed. It feels tense and immediate, especially when a stray shot clips your last cannon.
