Game Overview

I picked up the Game Boy Advance version of Space Invaders back in 2002, a Taito Corporation release that felt right at home on the handheld. It was a time when portable systems were really hitting their stride, offering more than just scaled-down ports, and this one tried to add a little something new to a very familiar formula.

You control a lone laser cannon at the bottom of the screen, moving it left and right to shoot descending rows of pixelated aliens. The main goal is simple: clear each wave before they reach the bottom or you run out of shields. A couple of mechanics keep you engaged; you can activate a temporary power shot by quickly destroying several enemies in a row, and the game introduces new, more aggressive alien types on different themed planets. The pacing is relentless, the difficulty steadily climbing as the formations get faster and more complex. It feels like a constant, tense calculation of risk and timing, a genuine test of focus.
