Space Invaders Revolution came out for the Nintendo DS in 2005, developed and published by Taito. You control a laser cannon at the bottom of the screen, moving left and right to avoid incoming fire while shooting rows of descending aliens. Signature mechanics include using the touch screen to activate special weapons, like a screen clearing bomb, and a dual screen mode that splits the playfield or shows score details. The pacing is methodical but tense, with the aliens speeding up as their numbers thin. It feels like a focused, slightly modernized version of the arcade original, with just enough new tricks to make you reconsider old strategies.
