Game Overview

Space Marauder is one of those classic Game Boy Color shooters that somehow makes you feel like a one-person army against an entire alien invasion. The Burai—these creepy brain-like aliens—are pumping out these half-robot, half-organic mutants, and it’s your job to blast through waves of them with a jetpack strapped to your back. Feels ridiculous in the best way.

Most levels scroll sideways or vertically, with tight corridors and enemies swarming from all directions. But every so often, the game throws a curveball—top-down stages with randomized layouts that keep you on your toes. You start with a basic laser, but soon you’re swapping between missiles, ring shots, and the glorious cobalt bomb (which, honestly, is just cheating—it wipes the whole screen clean).

It’s basically Burai Fighter in portable form, minus the VS mode. Same three difficulty levels—Eagle for when you just want to cruise, Albatross for a real fight, and Ace if you enjoy pain. The level designs are different, though, so even if you’ve played the original, there’s still some surprises waiting. Just don’t expect mercy from those robo-mutants.
