Speak & Rescue is a 2022 arcade release from GameTech Studios. It arrived in a period where arcades were already niche, focusing on experiences you couldn't easily replicate at home. This game fits right into that idea, built around a unique, dedicated microphone peripheral.
You control a small knight on a quest to save a captured prince. The core action involves shouting specific commands into the microphone to make your character jump, attack, or use a shield. The levels are single-screen obstacle courses filled with moving platforms, enemy knights, and instant-death pits. Your main objective is to navigate these hazards screen by screen, eventually confronting a boss to retrieve a key for the prince's cage. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty is unforgiving, largely dependent on the machine accurately recognizing your yelled words. It feels like a chaotic, vocal workout where your success hinges on the clarity of your shouting.
