Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescue came out for the Game Boy in 1993, developed by Konami. It was part of that wave of late-era portable games that really tried to push the hardware, moving beyond simple platforming into more complex, exploratory adventures. You could feel the ambition, even on that small, green-tinted screen.

You start the game controlling only Michelangelo, navigating a large fortress screen by screen to find and rescue your captured brothers. Each turtle you free becomes playable, and they all have unique abilities; Raphael can climb certain walls with his sais, and Donatello attacks with extended reach using his bo staff. The exploration is methodical, requiring you to remember locations you can't yet access and return later with the right character. The difficulty is fair but persistent, demanding careful observation and a little patience. It feels like slowly untangling a knot, piece by piece, until the whole map finally makes sense.
