Game Overview

Spy vs Spy on the Game Boy Color came out in 1999, developed by Kemco. It was one of those late-era Game Boy titles that tried to capture the feel of a console experience in your hands, with a focus on split-screen competition and sneaky tactics rather than sprawling adventure. The game translated the spirit of the old MAD Magazine comic into a portable format, offering something a bit different from the usual platformers and RPGs of the time.

You control either the Black Spy or the White Spy, moving through a multi-room hideout to collect four items: a passport, a key, a microfilm, and a briefcase. The goal is to grab all four and escape through your personal exit before the other spy does the same. You set traps like dynamite, knives, or poison to slow your rival down, and you can also fight directly if you cross paths. The game moves quickly, with a lot of back and forth as you hunt for items while trying to avoid or trigger traps. It feels tense and unpredictable, especially when both players go for the same objective at the same time.
