Game Overview

Star Trek on SNES is one of those games that feels like it was made specifically for fans. You start by picking your era—Kirk’s original crew or Picard’s Next Generation—and suddenly you’re in charge of the Enterprise, making calls like whether to negotiate with Vulcans or blast through a pack of Romulan warbirds. The ship battles are surprisingly tactical, with shields, phasers, and torpedoes all needing manual input, which makes every encounter tense in the best way.

It’s not just combat, though. You’ll beam down to planets, deal with random events (some of which are ripped straight from the shows), and even manage your crew’s energy levels. The pixel art is charmingly retro, especially when the Enterprise swoops into view. Yeah, the controls take a minute to get used to, and the UI feels a little clunky now, but once it clicks, you’ll be hooked. Just try not to panic the first time a Klingon Bird-of-Prey decloaks right in front of you.

Honestly, it’s one of the few games that actually makes you feel like a Starfleet captain—flaws and all.
