Game Overview

Star Wars: Teikoku No Kage on N64 is one of those hidden gems that makes you wonder how it slipped under the radar. You start off in this grimy cantina—classic Star Wars vibes—before getting thrown into these chaotic firefights where blaster bolts are flying everywhere. The controls take a minute to get used to (that N64 stick wasn’t exactly precision-engineered), but once you do, the combat feels surprisingly fluid.

What really stuck with me were the levels—some are these sprawling, almost maze-like spaces where stormtroopers pop out from behind crates, and others have you sneaking through imperial bases with this weirdly satisfying stealth mechanic. The graphics are obviously dated now, but back then? That foggy, low-poly aesthetic gave the whole thing a gritty charm.

If you’ve got a soft spot for late-’90s Star Wars games that tried something different, this one’s worth dusting off the old console for.
