Play Sumou Fighter - Toukaidou Basho (Japan) Online
Two pixelated sumo wrestlers waddle and shove in a tiny ring—time your pushes just right or go flying off-screen like a cartoon. The physics make every wobble and stumble weirdly satisfying, especially when facing opponents who barely move or slip around like eels.

Sumou Fighter: Toukaidou Basho was a Japan-only Game Boy release from 1990, developed by Graphic Research. It arrived during a period when the handheld was still new, offering a simple, portable take on sumo wrestling without the complexity of larger console titles.
You control a sumo wrestler, moving left or right to push your opponent out of the ring or force them to touch the ground with any part of their body besides their feet. The main objective is to win each match and progress through the tournament. Key mechanics include timing your shoves for maximum impact and reading your opponent's movements to counter their attacks. The pacing is deliberate, with matches that require patience rather than speed, and the difficulty can spike sharply against later opponents. It feels like a careful, tense battle of positioning and momentum.
