Game Overview

Super Street Fighter II on the Genesis finally gave us the four new fighters we’d been waiting for—Cammy’s lightning-fast combos, Fei Long’s Bruce Lee kicks, Dee Jay’s obnoxiously cheerful taunts, and T. Hawk’s ridiculous pile-driver grabs. The sprites got a polish, too, with smoother animations and way better colors than the older versions.

They tweaked the balance so characters like Zangief weren’t total nightmares to fight against (though he’s still a beast if someone knows how to use him). And the soundtrack? Absolute bangers—Dee Jay’s stage theme still gets stuck in my head. It’s the definitive 16-bit Street Fighter experience, even if the SNES version had slightly better sound.
