Play Superman Online
Punching goons in Metropolis feels decent once you adjust to Superman’s floaty jumps, but blasting lasers in space is where this game really shines—wish there was more of that.

Superman on the Sega Genesis is one of those classic side-scrollers where you get to feel like the Man of Steel—mostly. You start off punching through goons in Metropolis, dealing with weirdos like the Prankster (who throws exploding presents, because of course he does). The controls take a second to get used to—Superman’s jumps feel a little floaty at first, but once you figure out the timing, it clicks.
Then Brainiac shows up, kidnaps Lois (naturally), and suddenly you’re flying through space levels blasting lasers from your eyes. Those sections are a nice change of pace, though I always wished there were more of them. Ground levels have these power-up icons that let you unleash a single super move—like a spin attack that clears a whole screen of enemies, which feels awesome when you pull it off at the right moment.
It’s not the deepest game, but there’s something satisfying about tossing Metallo into the distance like a scrap-metal ragdoll.
