Superman: The Man of Steel came out in 1989 for MS-DOS, published by Tynesoft. It was one of those early PC games that tried to capture the feel of a superhero in an era when side-scrollers and arcade-style action dominated. The game doesn't try to hide its ambition, even if the hardware of the time struggled to keep up.
You control Superman through a mix of side-scrolling and top-down stages, flying over Metropolis, fighting enemies like Darkseid's minions, and rescuing civilians. The main goal is to stop a terrorist threat, which involves punching through waves of foes, avoiding hazards like asteroids, and navigating between different gameplay styles without much warning. The pacing is erratic, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly. Playing it feels like wrestling with an enthusiastic but uncoordinated tribute to the Last Son of Krypton.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
