Game Overview

Oh man, Bubble Bobble on Game Boy Color takes me right back to sitting cross-legged on the floor as a kid, squinting at that tiny screen. You play as these cute little dinosaurs—Bub and Bob—who blow bubbles to trap enemies, then jump up to pop them. Sounds simple, but there's something weirdly satisfying about the way those bubbles float just right before you burst them.

The levels are these compact mazes full of platforms and ladders, and the music? That bouncy little tune gets stuck in your head for days. It's not as flashy as the arcade version, but that actually works in its favor—everything's tighter, quicker to pick up and play when you've got five minutes to kill.

Best part? Grabbing a friend for co-op. Two players crammed around one Game Boy, elbows bumping as you try not to accidentally trap each other in bubbles (which, okay, happens way more than it should). And there are secrets everywhere—hidden warp zones, different endings—so even after you think you've seen it all, the game tosses you a surprise.

It's one of those rare ports that actually feels made for handhelds, not just shrunk down. Still holds up, too.
