Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 on NES is basically you and a buddy (if you want) kicking Foot Clan butt side by side. The two-player mode’s got options—either you can accidentally smack each other around or team up without friendly fire. I always went with the latter unless I felt like trolling my little brother.
You’ll recognize the usual suspects—red ninjas chucking shuriken, pink ones jabbing with spears—but the turtles actually feel different this time. Donatello’s spin attack is weirdly satisfying, and Raphael’s little dash move saved me more times than I’d like to admit. Throwing enemies into each other never gets old, though half the time I’d mess up the timing and eat a spear to the face instead. Classic TMNT chaos.
It’s not perfect (the hit detection can be janky), but there’s something about the combo of pixelated pizza and ninja mayhem that just works. Still holds up if you’re into retro beat ‘em ups.
