You control one of the four turtles, moving through levels by punching, kicking, and using your signature weapon against Shredder's Foot Clan and other villains. The main objective is to fight your way to the end of each stage, defeating bosses like Bebop and Rocksteady along the way. Signature mechanics include throwing enemies directly toward the screen, which was a novel effect at the time, and a few stages that change the perspective, such as one where you surf on a sewer lid toward the foreground. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike during boss fights or crowded enemy encounters. It feels responsive and chaotic, especially with a friend sharing the controller.
