Game Overview

I first played Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the NES back in 1989. Konami developed it, and it was one of those games that really stood out on the system. It felt like a natural extension of the cartoon and comics, letting you step right into the sewers and streets of New York with the turtles.

You control Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, or Raphael, each with their own weapon and slightly different reach. Your goal is to rescue April O'Neil and stop Shredder, moving through levels that mix side scrolling overhead exploration. You jump across gaps, defeat Foot Soldiers, and occasionally drive the Turtle Van or pilot the Turtle Blimp. The game is known for its high difficulty, especially the infamous underwater dam level where you must defuse bombs. Navigating the maze like overworld and managing your limited health adds to the tension. It feels challenging but deeply satisfying when you finally make progress through sheer persistence.
