Game Overview

I remember picking up The Games: Summer Challenge back in 1991, part of Accolade's MS-DOS Classic Games series. It was a time when sports compilations were common, and this one fit right in with its straightforward, no-frills approach to multi-event competition. You didn't need a manual to understand what it was about; the title said it all.

You control an athlete competing across several summer sports, like sprinting, swimming, and cycling. The main goal is to win medals by outperforming the computer or a friend in two-player mode. Signature mechanics include rapid key tapping for running and swimming events, precise timing for the javelin throw, and managing stamina in the longer cycling race. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially when your cyclist wipes out on a sharp turn. It feels chaotic and a bit rough around the edges, but there's a genuine thrill in barely edging out a win.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
