I first played The Lost Vikings on MS-DOS back in the early 90s, when it was released as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games lineup. It was developed by Silicon & Synapse, who later became Blizzard, and it stood out for its clever design in an era full of straightforward platformers and shooters. The game didn't rely on flashy graphics or fast action; instead, it offered something more thoughtful, which felt refreshing at the time.

You control three Vikings, each with unique abilities: Erik runs and jumps, Baleog fights with a sword and bow, and Olaf blocks attacks with his shield. The goal is to guide all three to the exit in each level, solving environmental puzzles by switching between them. You might use Erik to jump across gaps, Baleog to hit distant switches with arrows, and Olaf to shield the others from hazards. The pacing is deliberate, almost puzzle-like, and some screens demand careful timing and multiple attempts. It feels satisfying to finally piece together a solution after several failures.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
