Game Overview

Tournament Fighter on SNES is one of those fighting games that somehow slipped under the radar back in the day, but it’s way more fun than it has any right to be. The first thing you’ll notice is how crisp the controls feel—no weird input lag, just clean punches and kicks that actually land when you want them to. The roster’s a mix of weirdos, from a cyborg ninja to a dude who fights with a boomerang, and each one has this exaggerated 90s charm that makes picking your fighter half the fun.

Matches are fast and chaotic, but not in a cheap way. You can totally spam kicks at first and scrape by, but the AI starts reading your moves pretty quick, so you’ll have to learn some basic combos if you want to survive past the third opponent. The music’s pure SNES cheese, all synth trumpets and punchy bass lines, and it somehow makes every fight feel like a championship match.

It’s not as deep as Street Fighter II, but for a quick, satisfying brawl with a friend or just to burn through arcade mode when you’ve got 20 minutes to kill, it holds up surprisingly well. Just try not to throw your controller when the final boss cheats.
