Game Overview

Trick Shot came out for the Atari 2600 in 1982, published by Atari themselves. It was one of those games that tried to capture the feel of a real sport, in this case pool, on a system known more for simple action than simulation. You could find it in the mix alongside other sports titles, offering something a little more thoughtful than just blasting aliens or racing cars.

You control a pool cue, aiming to sink all the balls on the table. The main objective is to clear each screen by pocketing every ball with as few shots as possible. You charge your shot by holding the fire button, then release to strike the cue ball; you can even add spin by wiggling the joystick just before shooting. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the physics, while basic, demand careful planning. It feels satisfying when you pull off a difficult bank shot or clear the table efficiently.
