Game Overview

Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar came out in 1985 for MS-DOS, developed and published by Origin Systems. It was part of that wave of early PC RPGs that really tried to push beyond simple hack and slash, back when games were often distributed on multiple floppy disks and required you to manage memory just to get them running.

You control a single character, the Avatar, and explore the world of Britannia from an overhead perspective, moving screen by screen. Your main goal is to embody eight virtues like compassion and honesty, not by killing monsters but by making specific choices in dialogue and action; you might refuse to attack harmless creatures or donate money to beggars. Combat is turn-based, happening on the same screen, and you'll delve into dungeons that shift to a first-person view. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, because you have to pay close attention to how your behavior aligns with the virtues you're trying to master. It feels like a personal test of character as much as a game.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
