Game Overview

Vertical Force throws you straight into a red-tinted bullet storm from the very start. It’s a vertical shooter, sure, but the twist is that you’re flipping between two altitude layers mid-fight—like diving above or below traffic to dodge enemies or snag a power-up. Sounds cool, right? It is—until you forget which layer you're on and slam into something that wasn’t even there a second ago.

You start off with basic firepower, but grabbing upgrades quickly becomes essential if you don’t want to get shredded. Lasers, wide shots, shields—nothing too fancy, but they do the job. Then there are these AI drones you can pick up. I wasn’t sure what they did at first, but turns out they’re basically floating backup with their own weapons. Some heal you, others just blast stuff. You can swap them in and out mid-flight, which feels way more strategic than you'd expect for a game that’s mostly “shoot everything before it shoots you.”

The screen gets busy fast. Enemies come at you in waves, from both altitude layers, and if you're not paying attention, you’ll either miss power-ups or eat a missile to the face. Vertical Force looks intense with its layered 3D visuals, but what really hooked me was how it constantly forces you to juggle movement, aim, and those quick altitude swaps at the worst possible times.
