Game Overview

Volley Ball came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed by Technos Japan. It was one of the earlier sports titles on the console, a time when simple concepts and straightforward controls were the norm. You got a basic volleyball game without much flair, just you, the court, and the net.

You control a single player on a two-person team, moving your character around the court to receive the ball, set it up, and spike it over the net. The main goal is to outscore the opposing team by making the ball land in their court or forcing them to fault. Key mechanics include timing your jumps for blocks and spikes, and angling your shots by holding the directional pad when you hit the ball. The pacing is quick, and the computer opponents can be surprisingly sharp, especially in later matches. It feels responsive and tense, especially when a rally goes back and forth several times.
