VS Super Mario Bros (VS) [a1] is basically the NES version cranked up to eleven—faster jumps, tighter gaps, and enemies that seem to come at you twice as quick. The first level alone throws more Goombas at you than you'd expect, and those pits feel just a little wider.
It's still Mario, but everything has this slight edge to it. You'll recognize the layouts, but the timing's different—landing on a moving platform feels more like a split-second decision than muscle memory. Mess up once, and the whole run can spiral fast.
