Warlords came out in 1990 from Strategic Studies Group, a turn-based strategy game that felt right at home on MS-DOS. It was a time when strategy games were often complex, deep experiences, and Warlords fit that mold without overwhelming you right away. The game presented a fantasy world map divided into provinces, and you took the role of a warlord vying for control against up to seven other players or computer opponents.

You control armies, heroes, and cities, moving units across the map to conquer neutral territories and enemy strongholds. The main objective is to eliminate all rival warlords and unite the land under your banner. Key mechanics include managing city production to build different unit types, researching spells to gain tactical advantages in combat, and using heroes to lead armies or complete quests for powerful artifacts. The pacing is deliberate, with each turn requiring careful planning, and the difficulty can be steep as alliances form and break among opponents. It feels like a tense, calculated struggle for every inch of ground, where a single misstep can unravel hours of progress.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
