White Knight Chronicles: Origins came out for the PlayStation Portable in 2011, developed by Matrix Software and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. You control a custom-created hero, leading a party through linear, screen-by-screen environments, battling monsters in real-time combat that blends physical attacks with magic. Your main goal is to push back a demonic invasion, which involves a lot of dungeon delving and completing numerous quests. The pacing is methodical, built around grinding for better gear and taking on progressively tougher enemy waves; it can feel repetitive if you play alone, but the ad-hoc co-op multiplayer gives it a solid social hook. It feels like a straightforward, grind-heavy action RPG that works best when you have a friend along for the journey.
