Wrath of the Black Ninja came out for the NES, though I don't recall who made or published it. It was one of those many action games that filled out the library back then, not a big name but something you'd rent on a weekend. You control a ninja moving screen by screen, slashing enemies with your sword and throwing shurikens when you need some distance. The main goal is to rescue a kidnapped princess by fighting through waves of guards and several multi-stage boss fights. Key mechanics include precise platforming over bottomless pits and using a limited block to deflect projectiles. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is punishing, often sending you back to the beginning after a few mistakes. It feels tense and demanding, where every jump and attack has to be deliberate.
