XX Mission came out in 1990 as an arcade release from Arcade Studios. It was part of that wave of games where developers tried to push hardware limits with fast action and detailed sprites. You would see it in arcades alongside other shooters, but it had its own look and pace that set it apart.

You control a small fighter ship, moving through horizontally scrolling levels filled with enemy craft and ground targets. Your main goal is to survive while destroying everything in your path. The ship has two attack modes: a standard forward shot for air enemies and a ground beam that strikes targets below. You collect power-ups that change your weapon, sometimes turning you into a temporary force that clears the screen. The game moves quickly, and the difficulty ramps up sharply, demanding quick reflexes and careful positioning. It feels tense and satisfying when you finally break through a tough section.
