Play Yoshis Island Online

You play as Yoshi carrying a crying baby Mario through these wobbly, hand-drawn levels—floating in midair by frantically flapping, turning enemies into eggs, then banking weird trick shots with them. The whole thing feels like a playground where everything’s slightly alive.

Game Overview

Yoshi's Island on SNES is one of those games that just feels different—like Nintendo took the Mario formula and flipped it sideways. Instead of playing as Mario, you're a bunch of Yoshis carrying baby Mario through these wild, crayon-drawn levels. The art style still holds up, too—everything's got this wobbly, hand-drawn look that makes the world feel alive.

Gameplay’s all about Yoshi’s weird little moves: you can hover in midair by mashing the jump button (which looks ridiculous but is super useful), lick up enemies to turn them into eggs, and then chuck those eggs at stuff. Some puzzles make you ricochet eggs off walls or skim them across water, which sounds simple until you’re three tries deep and still missing that one dumb target.

Oh, and baby Mario? He’s basically a liability. If an enemy hits you, he goes flying in a bubble, screaming his head off while a timer counts down. It’s equal parts hilarious and stressful—nothing like frantically chasing a floating baby while his cries get more panicked. Also, sometimes Yoshi turns into a helicopter or a submarine, because why not?

It’s still one of the most creative platformers out there, even after all these years.
