Oh man, Yoshi's Story 2—the sequel that never was. I still catch myself daydreaming about what could've been: more of those gorgeous hand-drawn SNES landscapes, new egg-throwing tricks, maybe even a two-player mode where you and a friend could wreak havoc as different colored Yoshis. The original Yoshi's Island nailed that perfect mix of challenge and charm, with those crying Baby Mario moments and the way every level felt like flipping through a pop-up book.

If they'd made a proper sequel on the Super Nintendo, you just know it would've had weirder transformations (remember the helicopter Yoshi?), sneakier hidden flowers, and probably some ridiculous new mechanic involving melons or something. Instead we got the N64 version, which was... fine, but not quite the same. Nothing beats that 16-bit magic—the way the ground would squish under Yoshi's feet, or how the music would shift when you were running out of time. Makes me want to dig out my old SNES and play through World 1-3 again, just for that perfect mid-air egg bounce.
