Game Overview

A Matter of Time was released in 1997 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed and published by Infogrames. It arrived late in the DOS era, a period when point-and-click adventures were giving way to more graphically intense titles, yet it carved out a quiet space for itself with a premise built on temporal manipulation rather than visual spectacle.

You control a nameless protagonist exploring a surreal, clock-filled mansion, typing text commands to interact with objects and characters. Your main goal is to repair a broken grandfather clock by gathering its scattered components, but the real challenge lies in navigating environments where time behaves unpredictably; clocks run in reverse, certain items only exist in specific time periods, and non-player characters offer cryptic, sometimes misleading advice. The pacing is deliberate, almost meditative, demanding careful observation and logical experimentation over quick reflexes. It feels like untangling a delicate, ever-shifting puzzle where every action carries weight and nothing is quite as it first appears.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
