Game Overview

Al-Qadim: The Genie's Curse came out in 1994 for MS-DOS, published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. It was part of that wave of isometric RPGs that tried to capture the feel of tabletop adventures on the computer, set in an Arabian Nights world that felt distinct from the usual European fantasy fare.

You control a young merchant navigating city streets and dangerous ruins, talking to locals, trading goods, and fighting bandits or monsters. The main goal is to lift a curse by finding a powerful genie; this involves exploring areas screen by screen, solving environmental puzzles, and managing your inventory for both combat and bartering. Combat is turn-based and can feel unforgiving, requiring careful positioning and timing, while the haggling system for buying and selling adds a layer of economic strategy. It feels like a methodical, sometimes punishing journey where every coin and every fight matters.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
