Play Antz Online

You control Z the ant, scrambling over picnic crumbs and grass blades while dodging bugs—it’s jittery, a little janky, but weirdly endearing. Those boss fights come outta nowhere though.

Game Overview

Antz on Game Boy Color is one of those weird little licensed games that somehow works. You play as Z, the neurotic ant from the movie, trying to impress Princess Bala by doing... well, mostly jumping over stuff and avoiding bigger bugs. The levels are surprisingly varied—one minute you're sneaking through picnic leftovers, the next you're swinging from blades of grass like some tiny insect Tarzan.

It's got all the usual platformer moves—crawling through tunnels, climbing ropes, that awkward little crouch jump—but the animations give Z this jittery energy that fits his personality. Boss fights pop up now and then to keep things tense, though some of them feel like they belong in a completely different game. The whole thing's oddly charming if you don't mind the occasional clunky hitbox.

Definitely better than it had any right to be for a movie tie-in.
