Astonishia Story came out in 1994 for MS-DOS, developed by Softry. It was part of that wave of mid-90s computer RPGs, before 3D graphics became standard, when games relied on detailed sprites and turn-based strategy to build their worlds. The setting is a high fantasy realm with knights, magic, and political intrigue, all rendered in the colorful, slightly chunky pixel art typical of the era.

You control a party of characters, led by a knight named Lloyd, navigating the world screen by screen. The main goal involves escorting a princess and unraveling a conspiracy, which means traveling across an overworld map, entering towns and dungeons, and engaging in tactical combat. Battles take place on a grid; you move each character individually, attacking with swords or magic, and positioning is key to surviving enemy strikes. The pacing is deliberate, with random encounters that can feel frequent, and the difficulty encourages careful resource management. Playing it feels like slowly mastering a complex, sometimes unforgiving system where every decision in battle matters.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
