Baseball Stars 2 is one of those Neo Geo gems that makes you wish modern baseball games had half its charm. Right from the first pitch, you notice how crisp the pixel art is—those little player sprites have way more personality than they should. The pitching and batting feel tight, and there's just enough arcade-style exaggeration to keep things exciting without going full-on ridiculous.

What really hooked me was the team management between games. You earn cash to upgrade players, and I totally got sucked into tweaking my lineup—like agonizing over whether to boost my pitcher's fastball or save up for a power hitter. The AI puts up a decent fight too, especially in later innings when they start reading your pitches. And if you've got a friend around, the two-player mode turns into this hilarious back-and-forth of trash talk and last-minute homers.

It's not the deepest baseball sim out there, but it nails that "one more game" feeling. I still fire it up when I want something quick with actual stakes.
