Battle K-Road came out in 1994 for arcades, developed by Psikyo. You control one of several street fighters, each with their own basic moveset, and your goal is to win a series of one-on-one matches. The combat is built around a stamina system; throwing punches and kicks depletes your bar, and if you get knocked down, you have to wait on the ground for a moment before you can get back up. The characters all move with a heavy, deliberate weight, making every action feel consequential. It's a game of patience and well-timed strikes rather than speed, and landing a solid hit on an opponent who's just whiffed a big attack is deeply satisfying. The whole thing feels like a messy, realistic back-alley scrap.
