Game Overview

If you've ever wanted to yell at your screen while moving tiny pixelated regiments across a Civil War battlefield, Battle of Antietam is your kind of MS-DOS time capsule. The first time I booted it up, I lost half my Union forces before realizing those wooded hills aren't just for decoration—they're perfect ambush spots.

It's all turn-based chess with muskets here. You'll squint at the minimalist map, agonize over whether to push your artillery forward or hold the line, and then watch your carefully planned flanking maneuver collapse because some Confederate brigade popped up where it shouldn't have. The lack of modern graphics somehow makes every casualty report feel heavier.

History nerds will geek out over the accuracy (right down to the sunken road becoming a bloodbath), but what hooked me was how punishingly fair it is—mess up your supply lines or overextend, and the game will happily let you reenact historical disasters. Just don't blame me when you lose three hours trying to beat Lee at his own game.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
