Game Overview

I first played Battles in Time back in 1995, when it came out as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series from Quantum Quality Productions. It was one of those mid-90s strategy titles that didn't try to be flashy, just solid and engaging, fitting right in with the era's turn-based offerings.

You command a variety of units from different historical periods, moving them across hex-based maps to outmaneuver and defeat enemy forces. The main goal is to win each scenario by either eliminating all opposition or capturing key objectives. Two mechanics stand out: the ability to switch between a strategic overview for planning and a tactical view for direct unit control, and the varied unit types that require you to adapt your approach depending on the era, like using Roman infantry formations or future-tech mechs. The pacing is deliberate, with some missions posing a real challenge due to limited resources or tough enemy placements. It feels satisfying to watch a well-executed plan unfold across the battlefield.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
