Game Overview

Burai Senshi Color is one of those weird little Game Boy Color games that slipped under the radar back in the day—which is a shame, because it’s got this odd charm to it. You start off with a small squad of warriors (the sprites are chunky but full of personality) and jump right into grid-based battles that feel like a simplified Fire Emblem. The first few fights are straightforward, but by mission three, you’re already carefully positioning archers behind your frontline fighters.

The colors pop in that distinct late-90s GBC way—lots of bright blues and yellows—and the music has that tinny, catchy quality you either love or hate. I got stuck for a while figuring out how healing worked (turns out you need to stand next to certain terrain tiles), but once it clicked, the strategy started feeling really satisfying. It’s rough around the edges, but there’s something about the pacing that makes it hard to put down. If you’ve got a soft spot for obscure tactical RPGs, this one’s worth dusting off.
