Game Overview

If you grew up with the Cars movie, this GBA game is like a tiny, playable dose of nostalgia. You start off picking between Lightning McQueen, Mater, or a few others—I always went with McQueen because, well, speed—and then you're immediately thrown into these bright, chunky versions of Radiator Springs and other locations from the film. The racing itself is simple but satisfying, with just enough drift mechanics and turbo boosts to make it feel arcade-y without being overwhelming.

What surprised me was how much extra stuff they packed in. Between races, you're doing demolition derbies, collecting tokens (which, okay, is kind of a kid-friendly gimmick), and even little stunt challenges. It's not Mario Kart, but it doesn’t try to be—it’s just a solid, cheerful racer that nails the movie’s vibe. The sprites are surprisingly detailed for a GBA game, too. If you’ve got a soft spot for Pixar or just want something lighthearted to burn through in short bursts, this one holds up better than you’d expect.
