Game Overview

Cars for the PSP came out in 2006, developed by Rainbow Studios and published by THQ. It was one of those early portable racers that tried to capture the feel of a console game on the smaller screen, a decent effort for Pixar fans during the PSP's first few years.

You control Lightning McQueen, racing on circuits inspired by the film's locations like Radiator Springs and Ornament Valley. The main goal is to win the Piston Cup by placing first in a series of championship events. Key mechanics include a turbo boost system, which you fill by performing clean drifts and drafting behind opponents, and a stunt mode where you earn points for mid-air tricks. The racing is fairly straightforward, with a moderate difficulty curve that gets tougher in the later cups. It feels like a solid, no-frills arcade racer that gets the job done.
