Castle Ralf is one of those MS-DOS Classic Games releases from the early 1990s that doesn't have a well-documented developer or publisher, but it fits right in with the era's platformers. You control a small knight, Ralf, who has to navigate a sprawling, multi-level castle filled with monsters and traps. The graphics are simple, the colors are limited, and the sound is pure PC speaker, but it has a certain charm that keeps you coming back.

You guide Ralf through screen by screen exploration, using your sword to defeat enemies like bats and skeletons. The main objective is to reach the end of each level, collecting keys to open doors and avoiding bottomless pits. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is high; one missed jump or mistimed attack sends you back to the start of the level. It feels tense and demanding, but satisfying when you finally clear a tricky section.
