Castlevania II - Belmont's Revenge is one of those Game Boy games that feels bigger than it should. You start with just your whip and a few hearts, moving through these gothic stages filled with bats, skeletons, and traps that feel deliberately placed to mess with you.

What stands out is how the game lets you choose which castle to tackle first. Each one has its own theme, like the clock tower with gears that move platforms or the crystal stage where everything reflects weirdly. The music is surprisingly good for an old handheld, too—haunting but with this driving energy that keeps you pushing forward.

It's not perfect. Some jumps feel unfair until you memorize the enemy patterns, and the password system is a pain. But there's something satisfying about finally beating a boss after a dozen tries, watching that little cutscene where you rescue someone before realizing there's still more to do.
