Castlevania II on Game Boy picks up where the first one left off—this time, Christopher Belmont’s kid gets nabbed by Dracula, so guess who’s gotta storm the castle again? The levels are split into four themed castles (cloud, plant, rock, and crystal), which is a nice change from the usual linear grind. The music’s surprisingly good for a Game Boy title, and the platforming feels tighter than the first game, though some jumps still make you swear under your breath.

Pro tip: The cloud castle is way easier than the plant one, so maybe don’t start there unless you hate yourself. Also, the password system actually works this time, so no more losing progress when your batteries die. It’s not Symphony of the Night, but for an old handheld vampire hunt, it holds up better than you’d expect.
