Play Castlevania Legends (USA, Europe) Online

Castlevania Legends is one of those weird, forgotten Game Boy entries where you play as Sonia Belmont—the first (and only) lady Belmont in the series before they wiped it from canon. It’s got that classic whip-swinging, candle-smacking action, but everything feels a little stiffer than the NES games. The music’s surprisingly good for a Game Boy title, though, and there’s something charming about how janky some of the enemy patterns are.

You’ll recognize a lot of the usual Castlevania stuff—floating Medusa heads, bone-throwing skeletons—but the levels are shorter and more bite-sized, which makes sense for handheld play. The final boss fight against Dracula is… well, let’s just say you’ll be glad it’s not as brutal as some of the other games in the series. It’s rough around the edges, but if you’re a diehard Castlevania fan, it’s a neat little piece of history.
