Castlevania Legends came out for the Game Boy in 1998, developed and published by Konami. It was one of the last Castlevania games on the original handheld, arriving after a few others had already established the series' portable style. The game follows Sonia Belmont, an ancestor of the Belmont clan, as she ventures into Dracula's castle to confront him.
You control Sonia through a series of side-scrolling stages, using her whip to attack enemies and jumping across platforms and pitfalls. The main goal is to progress through each area, defeat the stage boss, and eventually face Dracula himself. Along the way, you find sub-weapons like axes and holy water, and you can collect orbs to power up your whip. The pacing is straightforward, with levels that are relatively short but sometimes demand careful movement due to limited mobility. It feels like a condensed, classic-style action game with a focus on simple, direct combat.
